Almost everyone nowadays thinks that curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric - haldi) is the "new" miracle drug of the century, even though it has long been used in Indian cuisine. Truth is, it undeniably does - and even though we Indians get it from a lot of our daily dishes, it is poorly adsorbed into the body under ordinary conditions, perhaps especially in older age. Hence, a supplement in the form of a capsule can definitely help boost the quantity. But it still begs the question: do we need it? Given that curcumin has been implicated in literally dozens of beneficial actions, including its powerful and therapeutic effects against dementia (Alzheimer's), it might seem reasonable to take it, but perhaps not in the heavy doses advised. Finally, I've always advised people to consult with their medical practitioner, who is aware of your physical condition and diet, before spending large sums of money on any "supplement".
